The purpose of this paper is threefold: (1) to explicate the major theoretical assumptions and premises that have been guiding the design of our research, (2) to present our empirical findings, which are consistent with these assumptions, and (3) to describe studies now in progress that are designed to test hypotheses about the relationship between positive reinforcement and depression (81 pgs).
